“…what makes you think that elves are any more magical than something like a whale? You know what I mean? What if I told you a story about how underneath the ocean, there was this giant sea mammal that used sonar and sang songs and it was so big that its heart was the size of a car and you could crawl through the arteries? I mean, you’d think that was pretty magical, right?”

Hello and Welcome!
This blog is a celebration of Mother Earth and all she has to offer! It is also a resource for recommendations on how to help keep Earth and her inhabitants safe and healthy.
I’ve been a nature lover ever since I can remember. Growing up on the North Shore of Massachusetts, I’d spend my summers playing on the beach. I loved exploring the tide pools, counting how many animals I could find: hermit crabs, snails, sand dollars…. The mini metropolis they created between the rocks fascinated me.
I continued to carry that curiosity with me as I grew into adulthood. In college, I studied Ecology and Evolution and had the privilege of interning at zoos and a conservation organization. Today, I work at a wildlife rehabilitation center.
Since those early summers, I have ventured back to my favorite beach spots; though, the tides have changed. Where I used to find a diverse, lively ecosystem, I now find a barren pool. The hermit crabs and snails that I befriend during my childhood have disappeared.
Having only been on this Earth for a little over two decades, I have already seen the effects of climate change and pollution: the decrease in biodiversity, the warming winters, the harsher storms…
It’s been overwhelming. I needed to do something. This blog is only the first step, but I hope that my words will inform and inspire others. Each post, I intend to expand my knowledge about a species or topic that I am interested in and then share my findings with others. I also hope to offer some guidance on simple steps people can take to reduce their carbon footprint and impact on the environment. Will you join me on my mission?
I love this world and I want to help preserve it. For there is none other like it. As Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz puts it, “there’s no place like home.”
With love,
Kim
